As
most of his sports are revealed on this sacred
soil, it is given the highest honour, and being the only Brahma
Kshetra, unprecedented glory attends to it. Hence the emphasis by
the sage Pulastya that Pushkar is the first and foremost among the
thirthas, and he ends his, long narration to Pitamaha Bhishma that
thirthas begin with Pushkar. A dip is indispensable, and only the
fortunate avail this rare opportunity. Above all, it is said by
eminent authorities on numerous occasions that bathing in other
thirthas like Ganges, Prayaga etc., or pilgrimage to four
Dhamas-Badari, Puri, Dwaraka and Rameswar does not confer merit, or
expiate sins, unless Pushkar is visited for sacred bath. After a
visit and dip in Pushkar alone one is found awakened by welcome
speeches of heavenly damsels in
the vimana, carrying him to heaven. Hence the fittest appellation
Pushkar Raj i.e., the king of Thirthas, which it acquired by the
presence of Brahma there eternally as promised to the Vanadevatha on
his first visit, and is honourably kept up by him.
