Four Out the five of his ideal sons refused; for it
was matricide out and out. They were cursed Then he called his last son,
Parasurama and bade hire to kill her. In minutes he accomplished his father's
wish. Pleased with his filial duty, he asked him to name his desire. At once he
prayed for the life to his mother dead, and retract the curse called down on his
brothers. Jamadagni contented infinitely at his exemplary character, gave life
to the dead body now in two parts, head at one place and body at other. And then
said Jamadagni that the head cannot be joined to the torso for the reason that
it fell on an impure spot. He then ordained worship to them by all classes of
people Such temples were not fond any ware in India except here. When he
sprinkled holy water from his Kamandala on the dismembered body, there emerged
two forms. They were named Yellamma Devi and Bhudevi. Yellamma is the head part,
and Bhudevi, the body. Later they were made the gramadevathas and are being
worshipped with great ardour since then As this place brought to light
Parasurama's out standing innate traits and highly evolved virtues-Pithrubhakti,
Matruprema and Sodaranuraga, it was called Parasurama kshetra. Annual festivals
are celebrated on a grand scale.
It
