Alampur, the renowned seat of Navabramhas is dotted with numerous ancient
temples dedicated to several august deities adorning the Hindu Pantheon, like
Suryanarayana Swamy, Papanaseswara Swamy, Narasimhaswamy, Jogulamba, Yellamma
and Bhudevi to mention a few. On account of their location on the holy banks of
Tungabhadra and situated in Brahma-Hari-Hara thirtha kshetra, the Yellamma and
Bhudevi-temple enshrining the holy head and torso of that chaste lady Renuka
Devi in the local names of Yellamma and Bhudevi is luring devotees throughout
the year.
Locals
worship them with unusual favour. They have an august background, and is
associated with the Sage Jamdagni and Parasuram, the sixth incarnation of Lord:
Mahavishnu. And this gave the kshetra the hallowed name of Parasurama Kshetra
too. It runs - Jamadagni, one of the Saptharishis was renowned for this
tapassakti and strict adherence to moral code.
