     BASARA - GNANA SARASWATI AALAYAM

THE TEMPLE:

This square shaped shrine lying between two hills is supposed to have built by Adikavi Valmiki Maharshi. Brahmanda Purana records that this Jnana Saraswati icon now worshiped was installed by him before coming his magnum opus the Ramayana. And Lord Vinayaka, is it said, is entitling agrapuja here due to his adoration and a mark of her anugrah he received. The temple built in the Dravidian architectural style possesses all the main parts like garbhagriha, mahamantap, prakaras, gopuras and the like.

The Icon of Lakshmi is also installed in the grabha griha along with Jnana Saraswati. The Valmiki's image installed in the courtyard is the object of great craze for the bhaktas. It is believed that this august Jnana Saraswati blesses the mute with the faculty of speech and cures all diseases, if soulful prayers are offered. People turn up in large numbers with their kids for Vidyarambha deeming it a great auspicious beginning.
