Renowned
for Siva-Vishnu sammelana; besides being one of the Sakti-peethas with Mother
Parvathi adored in the name of Manikyamba, one of the eighteen names of Mother
Sati; and Lord Siva in his Jyothilingaswarupa; this famous ancient temple is occupying
a permanent place among the temples of India. It has many unique
features that raised it to the pinnacle of glory-such as it is in this holy
place the all-merciful Mahadev is abiding to conferring bhoga on the devotees,
while living, and moksha on death, unlike the other similar archamurthis
renowned for granting emacipation sans bhoga; it is this kshetra entered in the
records as the northern tip demarcating the boundary of the once Trilinga desa,
now called Andhra Pradesh, one of the states of Indian union; it is to this kshetra
of peace and plenty, Vedavyasa was directed by Mata Annapurneswari for
settlement; it is in this Dakshina Kasi, the great sage Agasthya stayed for
years, after humbling the ever growing Vindhya; it is here Dakshaprajapathi
lived, and Mother Parvathi was burnt herself, in yogagni when insulted by none
but her own father.
