It
is a much frequented popular shrine, and the deity with a glorious
background has become a house hold goddess for thousands of people in the
coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh Vijayawada and Kanakadurga are so
interlinked and they are not two in one, but one and only one says the sthalagna
face with beaming smiles. And continues mention Kanakadurga Vijayawada in its
glory parades before your mental eye, or utter Vijayawada, Kanakadurga in her
ethereal splendour Stands before you and beckons a visit to her Sannidhi. No
theist go back without worshipping her in his visit to this city, whatever may
be the pressure of time exerts on him. Modern Vijayawada owes its name, glory,
prosperity to this all powerful Jaganmata whose bounteous benignty is making it
grow into dasa disas to the jealousy of many cities in Andhra Pradesh, or other
states. The citizens too are equally grateful and enthusiastic in displaying
their pure devotion by spending lacs of rupees on festival days for conducting
pujas on a grand scale and proving worthy of her vatsalya. About the origin of
the temple, there are several versions. Legends are many, but claims are
contradictory Mata Kanakadurga according to one Purana emerged into this world
by the power of penance of sailasakthi, a mainfestation of Indrakila hill itself
to relieve the people from asura meanace. And another version affirms that this
holy shrine is one among the eighteen Sakthipeethas, and she is one of the forms
of Sakti. Padma Purana proclaims that Kanakadurga is a mainfestation of Parvathi.
Such accounts are contless, all but eulogising her glory through several legends.
