This
obscure little village enshrining a splendid Channakesvalaya, famous for the
intestimable sculptural wealth is also
possessing forts, ponds and small shrines installed with a wide variety of gods,
like Nandisa, Anjaneya etc. Among them, the Kotamma temple lying in front of
Nandisa tank deserves mention. Though it is a small ancient shrine in almost
dilapidated condition at it, its archamurthi is receiving reverential regular
worship even today. The icon is a superbly chiselled one revealing her fierce
aspect that strikes terror at first sight it self, but infinitely compassionate
to the devout bhaktas, who offer several types of prayer services with elaborate
rituals. This august devata is the household deity of many families in this
region and they congregate on festival days in large numbers matting the entire
region reverberating with sound, colour and light. Rural folks celebrate it on a
grand scale lasting for days.
It
lies 5km off Mulakalacheruvu town on the Dharmavaram - Pakala metre guage line, accessible
by four wheelers from near by towns like Madana Palli, Kadiri etc.
