ARRAH - ARANYADEVI TEMPLE

The origin of the name of this place and emergence of its Mother have very many legends that are awe-some and fantastic. And they take us back to Dwaparayuga . According to legend, Lord Krishna disguised as hermit and Arjun as lion approached the king Mordhwaj with a fantastic request. The fake hermit demanded human flesh and particularly that of King's son, which must be cooked by the queen after dissecting the body in the presence of courtiers in the court by the king and queen. The Dharma Prabhu who denied nothing to any arthi till then taking the consent of Iris queen agreed and did as bid. Though it was ghastly and barbarous, the couple never showed any sign of remorse or resentment to that savage sage When the cooked food was served, the hermit ordered the king to call his son to partake it along with them. When called, the slain boy appeared and rushed towards the spot. Then the Lord and the lion revealed their real identity Having finished the work of conferring boons etc. Lord Krishna threw away area which mean a kind of knife used for dissecting the boy. A temple was bur exactly at the same spot where tile arra fell. So it carne to known as Arrah, the scene of supreme sacrifice. There are few more fascinating versions of the same legend. but they converge at the King's uncommon Dharma nirathi which brought celestials down only to conferring boons oil the king for righteous iii deemed second to none but to itself.
