THE ORIGIN OF
NAME:
There is another interesting anecdote in Kali kapurana narrating the cause of
dark colour. It is said that when Sati was born in her next birth as Parvathi to
Himavan. she was dark complexioned and was endearingly called Shyama and Kali
too by the parents. After marrrage, with Maheswar, he once addressed endearingly
as Kali in the presence of gods Taking it as an insult, she did penance and got
a boon to turn Gauri with her Lord's blessings.
