  DHARGAL - SRI SANTADURGA TEMPLE

This monumental relic, once tasted the beastly religious fanaticism perpetrated by aliens on Hinduism, but fortunately it came out unharmed, declaring to the world that the land's Sanathana Dharma is  ajeya-invicible and ajaramara-immortal. When the erstwhile abode of this powerful icon at Barden was about to be razed to the ground by tile thoughtless religious Portugese zealots in 1500, stung by the jealousy of its immense popularity, indescribable divinity, the ardent adorers removed it to Sanqulim at once, and after building a beautiful befitting mandir in 1550, it was finally enshrined in Dhargal. This proclaims the adorers steadfast faith in the Mother and her abundant compassion. Seated in her new abode firmly, she has been protecting her verities with her eternal vigil. Her bounteous conferment of boons made some of the god-minded aliens turn Hindus and so they are paying homage by their regular visits and ritualistic worship During the celebration of periodical festivals, lusty participation by foreigners registers Mother's matchless compassion and peerless position. The temple is built in Vesara architectural style.

It lies in Dhargal of Pernlen Taluk of Goa, accessible by bus from Panaji.
