Bizzarre
beliefs and odd traditions forming the warp and woof of Hinduism encircle the
holy- shrines and invest the archamurtis with mystic aura that proffer sustenance
to the adores, whose number is mounting rapidly, despite the test tube
scientists falsifying every laudable thing externally, but internally
prostrating before the divinities, fastening a fantastic label-invisible
powers. Some of the beliefs do appear fantastic or barbarous, but the faith they
are engendering and appeasing the theistic thirst is worthy of appreciation and
emulation. Although they brought discomfort and danger in certain places they are
neither withdrawn for forgotten. One such belief going by the naive of Thookam
which is honoured and upheld in this holy shrine dedicated to Mother Bhagawati,
the most popular deity adored by both class and mass in Kerala. It is a typical
Kerala temple with a circular Srikoil surrounded by vast courtyards. As the
Mother fills the hearts of her adores with her grace easily, it is enjoying a
steady stream of devotees throughout the year.
