  AMBAKARATHUR - BHAIRAKALI TEMPLE

There are two temples here built for the Mother Bhadrakali and Lord Siva going by the name of Kalakanteswar. They received royal patronage and hence the dimensions are huge and architectural embellishments are superb. Many pravaktas and acharyas visited and eulogised the supreme mahima of this Devi. A peculiar feature discernable here is none stands near the archamurti. Even the priests touch not any part of the icon. So the decoration in dress or jewellery is done with the help of a long stick. Such is the awe-some power and position, this Bhadrakali is exercusing. Regular worship is offered with great devotion. The annual festival falling in the month of Vaishak is celebrated on a great scale, luring devotees in huge crowds Special ritualistic poojas offered by the devout theists then.

This lies about 2 km. off Poonthotham on Mayiladuthurai and Aranthangi southern railway, accessible by four wheelers.
