Kanyakumari,
the abode of the Virgin Goddess Parvathi, situated at the southern tip of
India, the Land's end occupies pride of place amongst the premier pilgrim
centres of our Punya Bharath. And with the recent addition of the splendid Vivekannda Rock Memorial, built to perpetuate the glory
of the sacred spot of
meditation of that remarkable parivraja ka, it has transformed itself into an
inter-continental tourist centre of perennial importance. Moreover, being
the only spot on the sub-continent blessed with the unique spectacle of sunset
and moon rise simultaneously, the grand scenes of great universal drama,
along with the splendid sight of the Sun and Moon facing each other on the
Chirta Pournami day in April, it has became an inexhaustible source of eternal
fascination for god-sekers and Nature-lovers too, who visit only to watch his
rare sight to savour an experience for a life time. And by virtue of its
geographical location at the confluence of three seas, the Arabian sea, Indian
Ocean and Bay of Bengal, which seem adoring the Mother Kanyakumari, it has been
attracting orthodox holy bathers in lakhs during auspicious occasions, since
it is here, on the off
shore rock the Virgin Goddess kumari Amman
did penance to gaining power for asura samhara. Abounding in many more such odd
and awe inspiring excellences, this Cape Comorin sacred region gained one of the
most coveted places in the history and legend of our Akhanda Bharat.
