Then only the commission-of closing
the eyes of Siva got redemption and she joined her Lord later with redoubled
joy. This incidentally throws light that this event took place earlier than the
Kanchi Kamakshi's episode which has similarity with regard to expiation of sin
with meditation. So this Kamakshi is called fittingly as the Adi Kamakshi.
The
place where she did penance later developed into Punyakshetra of great religious
importance with an imposing temple that came up by the royal patronage. Adi
Sankara realising the sanctity of this place performed Ardha meru pratishta,
which became instrumental in heightening the importance of the place and its
rapid growth.
