Sivakasi,
a fast flourishing industrial town, famous for crackers and highly advanced
printing technology, proudly is displaying a great modern temple of imposing
dimensions and excellent architectural embellishments. This newly built Sakti
shrine is dedicated to Bhadrakali, one of the fearful amsas of Mother Parvathi,
the Ichchasakti aspect of the Universal Mother Adiparasakti. It is a munificent
benefaction of the Nadar community, whose entrepreneurial acumen won universal
acclaim. Though this blooming town enshrines many holy places of worship built
for almost all divinities adorning the Hindu pantheon like Mariamman koil, Sivan
koil etc. this lures a steady steam of devotees from morn to even.
In
the vast courtyard, there are many mandirs for several deities, like Durga,
Kannivinayakar, Peechiamma, Karuppuswamy, Virabhadrar, Murugan, Irulappa,
Bhairava, Madaswamy etc. In the outer prakara there is installed Panchamukha
Vinayak, an awe-some five foot high granite image that raises the hands of the
devotees at first sight itself. The ace sculptural artistry wrings veneration
and brings credit to both patrons and craftsmen. There are also many niches for
lyyappa, Murugan, Sivan, Perumal, Karuppuswamy, Kachikkari Amman and other
adorable images in this Prakara.
The
temple boasts of a wide variety of prayer services beginning from 5.30 am to
10 pin with break of 4 hours. The periodical festivals falling in Panguni and
Chaitra draw unmanageable crowds.
It
lies in the sequestered southern side of town, accessible by auto or cycle
rickshaw from any part of the town bus stand.
