The
temple's uniqueness lies in giving Vibhutt as prasad, an age old tradition
confined normally to Siva temples. The Vibhuti given to the visitors is
surcharged with the Mother's, infinite compassion that it confers many benefits
It wards off mainly the evil effects of graha dosha and sunyam in addition to
blessing to the barren women with children. All disappointments in life, family
problems, mental worries take to flight with a single darsan of the Mother and
soulful prayers, surrendering all to her sweet goodwill; and applying the sacred
ash to the foreshed. Hence the eternal craze for a visit And it is one of the
largely visited temples lying in the vicinity of Madras.
Legends
attribute Murugan's victory over Surapadma due to her blessings and presenting
hurt with the powerful Vel-spear on ardent prayers. Hence the name Tiruverkadu says the
sthalalagna. Illustrious Nayanamars like Gnanasambhandar, Arunagirinathar, Sekkilar etc., praised her glory in their songs and they are
sung on special occasions.
