Though death is certain for every birth, everyone is mortally afraid of it and yearns to prolong his earthly sojourn, despite passing through the gate of hell due to nemesis, the result of his own misdoings. But those who worship this Kalasankaramurti installed in the Mahamandap of Tirukkadavur enjoys blissful life. The temple has a long legend and many awe-inspiring episodes like the archamurti saving Markandeya from the early death took place her. The Mother Abhirami's shrine lies in the outer prakara and it faces east. The three foot-high idol of the Mother is a specimen of superb artistry and it is placed on a high dias. She is chaturbhuja, holding in her hands a flower and a garland in two hands and the other two revealing Abhaya and varada mudras. The facial features are excellently chiseled and her eyes are exuding Karuna and lift the hands of the viewer at first sight itself. She is infinitely compassionate and known for liberal grant of boons. She grants a healthy disease free life to her adorers. Lord Siva bestows a life of longevity akin to that of Markandeya, who was saved from early death.
