BIRTH OF GANESH
It is the second of the Ashta Vinayaka temples and it
has a long legend. It is here Mother Parvathi's penance for 12
long years for the birth of a son bore fruit. According to
Ganesh Purana, Mother Parvathi performed tapas here in a
cave of Lenyadri for 12 years when Ganesh graced his darsan
and promised to be born as her son. Pleased with the boon,
she started meditating on Ganesh
along with Maheswar eagerly awaiting that auspicious moment. On
Bhadrapada Suddha Chaturthi day, she made a clay idol of Ganesh and offered
elaborate ritualistic worship. With the progress of her pooja, the clay idol
gradually metamorphosed into live Ganesh, exactly in Simhalagna under Swati
Nakshatra. Her ecstatic joy defied description. The Maharshis and celestials,
who attended the function, blessing the babe enjoined that who-so-ever adore
Ganapathy before starting any work, would accomplish it without worry or
break. Hurdles run helter-skelter at the mention of Ganesh 'in the inaugural
moment itself.
