BALLALA'S
CURSE AND ITS AFTERMATH
The legend of Ballala did not end with Vinayaka's
sakshatkara and consequent his release, but it continued
further and entwined itself with the characters responsible for
Ballala's inhuman treatment. And in this kshetra their
misdeeds reach the
point of consummation. Ballala continued his stay there meditating on Vinayaka
and at the end went to Swarga with his mortal body. He advised his mother to
look after his father, who turned blind, deaf, dumb and hunch-back by now.
Moreover his misfortune would affect him again in the next life, when he be born
as Daksha to King Bhima and his wife Kamala. The curse ran its course; for
Daksha was born with wounds all over the body and blood and pus oozing front
them. The king drove away Kamala and Daksha from Palace. During their miserable
wanderings, it so chanced a sadhu's visit to the temple coincided with the boy's
presence there crying in wilderness. Due to his darsan and breeze that blew over
him emanating from the sadhus body, the disease was cured. He then had the
darsan of Vinayaka and was advised to meet Mudgala Mahamuni, who advised to
chant the potent one letter mantra for emancipation. He did.
