ORIGIN OF THE TEMPLE
This ancient temple said to have been built by Sri
Mahavishnu himself on the hill top has a fantastic origin, and
this archamurti Ganesh helped him timely to defeat Madhu
Kaitab demons, the lokabhayankaras of the three worlds.
According to Ganesh Purana. Lord Ganesh assumed
four different forms in the four yugas - in Krita yuga he was called Vinayaka
and had ten arms, in Treta yuga he was born white coloured with six arms, in
the following Dwapara, he was called Mayureswar and in the last Kali yuga,
he took the avatar of Dhumraketu possessing four arms and established
Dharma. During Krita yuga, when Brahma was immersed in creating worlds,
Vishnu was enjoying deep sleep. Then came out from his cars two formidable
demons - Madhu and Kaitab. Being viciously disposed they tortured one and
all including Brahma, and Mother Earth. Then Brahma with the help of Nidra
devi woke up the sleeping Lord, and when acquainted with the atrocities of
the demons, He-waged a relentless war against them
for 5000 years, yet did not succeed. When sought the help of Maheswar, he was
told that his defeat was due to forgetting Ganesh before the commencement of war
and not offering due prayers. And advised him to chant the name of Ganesh for
100 years at SIDDHATEK for sure victory. When did, Ganesh gave Mahavishnu enough
strength and support to killing the demons. In token of gratitude, Lord Vishnu
built a grand temple and installed a big image of Ganesh, and that Ganesh is
called Siddhi Vinayak. And it is this now found at Siddhatek, of course. it
underwent many changes during the renovation work carried on from time to time.
