THE
EMERGENCE OF ARCHAMURTI
The emergence
of this swayamvyakta archamurti is quite bizzare that wrings veneration.
According to sthalapurana, once an Englishman found on the bank of a pond, a
black lump of a stone lying and obstructing the narrow pathway. Considering it a
hurdle and eye-sore, he flung it into the sea nearby and went his way. And lo!
when he went that way next morning, it was there in its original place and
seemed to be staring at him, as it were. Disgusted at it, again he flung it with
all the might at his command. Miraculous! on the third day too, to his shock he
found it in its primary place. Struck with horror, he reported to Hindus going
that way. Listening to the whole episode and realising Vinayaka's intent of
being installed and adored, philanthropists and humanist devotees came forward
and built a beautiful imposing temple and installed this potent Vinayaka in
accordance with agamic tenets.
