UNIQUENESS OF THE TEMPLE
Among the most visit-worthy and much-hallowed
places of worship that Pondicherry claims and proudly
declares, the Manakula Vinayakar temple merits first
mention. Its devotees are as numerous as its origin curious.
By demonstrating his mysterious sports, he has entrenched
himself in the hearts of both Indians and aliens and is
receiving a
wide variety of prayer services round the year and round the clock as a matter
of fact. Almost all his awe-some multifarious forms in innumerable sizes are
adorning the four wails numbering some hundreds. Not an inch space of the
inner four walls is left bare, and moreover the names of his awe-inspiring
rupas are distinctly mentioned under each frame. A novelty nowhere found in
any temple in India. Forms such as his revealing three faces, five
faces with hands ranging from two to twenty are artistically and colorfully
carved and painted on the walls and it takes hours to see and realise the
infinite sports he played. Even Maharastra boasting of the Ahta Vinayaka
temples, deemed to be the last word in Vinayaka kshetras lags behind in the
display of such superb representation of his fantastic forms on walls.
"Hats off to the originators for such marvelous beautification of the
temple with all his asadrisarupas", utter the devout Vinayakopasakas on
going round the temple. They educate and impress the non-Indians with the glory
of Vinayaka and his infinite powers. The illustrious national poet Bharatiya
praised this Vinayakar in fine verses.
