TIRUCHANUR - SURYANARAYANASWAMY AALAYAM

This august archamurti has the unique distinction of being worshipped by no less than Kaliyug Bhagwan Srinivasa, for the blessing of gaining reunion with Mother Mahalakshmi, after that ignominous, haughty action of Brighu Maharshi.

And as the image of this Suryanarayana swamy, the Pratyaksha Daivam was installed by Balaji Bhagawan Himself and offered twelve long years of worship with lotus flowers grown in abundance in the Padma Sarovar lying in front of the temple, its holiness is great. Realising the glorious role played by the Sun god and his infinite powers, responsible for birth and growth of the entire animate world. Lord Venkateswara deemed it fit to adore him alone for fulfilment of his ,aspiration of Lakshmi kataksha and to take her to Vaikunta-his eternal abode. Doesn't he know that the presiding deity of Suryamandala is no other than Srimannarayana itself? Has not Sri Rama defeated the ten headed Ravana after uttering the potent chant-Aditya Hridaya? Hence Balaji's preference for Suryanarayana and his worship. He was rewarded fittingly as desired in the end.

This temple lying on the eastern bank of Padma Sarovara and to the north of Sri Alarmelmanga Tayar sannidhi in Sukapuri, the legendary name of present Tiruchanur is extremely tiny but dainty in appearance. Although its modest size and petite shape mirror not its intrinsic divinity, nor the sculptural beautifications detain the viewers for long, it is worth a visit.
