In
obedience God's command, Prahlad came to this region during his old
age and started searching for the Lord supposed to be taking rest
somewhere on the hill. Soon after finding the beautiful image of
Lord Varaha narasimha in an ever green bush, he built a temple
utilising Viswakarma's service. Installing the image with unequalled
splendour according to sastric injuctions, he worshipped the Lord
till his niryana. It was then this area expanded in every direction
and became a premier city teeming with millions. Once, on an
auspicious occasion during then, the Mukkoti devatas headed by
Brahma and Maheswar visited this and performed elaborate prayers to
the sacred Archamurthi, as it was then on par with Vaikunta, and
popularly believed to be Bhuloka Vaikunta. It was the eleventh day
of the bright half of Chitramasa-Chaitra sudha Ekadasi. Captivated
by the scenic beauty of this lovely forest region, and gratified by
the glory of the Lord's several sports played here, Lord Maheswar
expressed his determination to stay her permanently in the role of
kshetrapalaka which was followed by the earnest request of Ganga,
Yamuna and Saraswati to dwell here for ever to be used for Abhisheka
ritual. Lord granted their request. The joyous uproar of the devatas
rent the skies. The presence of Lord's Siva's image, and a pond
called Gangadhara testify to the truth of this momentous event. To
commemorate this supreme occasion, Kalyanotsavam is being celebrated
to the Lord every year on this day since then on a grand scale. A
star attraction for the devotees.
