The
priest elated at her devotion and faith in Lord Siva advised her to
perform with austerity a special puja lasting for 11 days for her
lord's safe return. She accepted and started the vrata after
consecretion by the priest with Rudrabhishek. The dedicated lady
strictly adhered to the tenets of the vrata like river bath; wearing
prescribed dress; walking bare foot to the sanctum, and chanting
Panchakshari - OM NAMASIVAYA sitting in padmasana posture. This she
continued for eleven days with utmost strictness and offered
ritualistic worship as instructed by the priests.
The
vrata was consummated with Maha Rudra patham on the eleventh day. As
in custom, she presented valuable gifts to the priests and assembled
devotees. No sooner did the formalities reach the
"Finale", there arrived then a messenger with a letter
addressed to her. The contents plunged her into ocean of joy; for,
it was from her lord Col. Martin, who communicated of his resounding
victory in the battle and it was quite unique. He added that his
miraculous escape from the grave danger was due to some unseen
super-human power; for, his coming out unscathed was so overwhelming
unlikely to occur in war theatre, and the whole army felt
delighted.
The
grave danger having been passed off, he was returning home
victoriously and shortly would meet her. She instantly folded her
hands and uttered loudly that it was Lord
Siva who was instrumental for his safety. So her faith mounted
higher resulting in visiting the temple everyday morning and
offering bhaspabhishek to the Lord. Hindu adorers extolled her
tenacious dedication and started emulating her.
