Background:
With
the advent of Muslims, Kasi fell victim to constant raids, loot.
arson and destruction. Some of the Mlechchas, in addition to
plundering the city, mutilated the sacred Sivalinga and consigned it
to unholy places. Almost all Bhagavannilayas dedicated to gods of
every denomination tasted the fury of the zealotry.
But
the irony of it, no sooner did the invader turn his back than
religious fen-our reinstalled them with agamic rituals, through
committed Peethadipathis and theist rulers, thereby showing to the
world that Hinduism is aprathihata and its glory, ajaramara. But on
one occasion, this holy city went bereft of Sivalinga and regular
worship. This is history. Regular prayers were restored with the
invisible, yet invincible power of Maheswar.
