scene is shifted to Karpara kshetra, where Narasimha has been
abiding in a temple built by a Muslim ruler and demonstrating His
miracles to lifting the star-crossed, irrespective of the class,
caste, creed, religion etc. The principal character is, the
omnipresent Narasimha, the fourth incarnation of Sri Mahavishnu, the
Protector of worlds and the beneficiary of his abundant grace is
Adil Shah, the Nawab of Bijapur. The time of action is recent past,
so the achieves supply adequate evidence
together with inscriptions. This temple, of course, emerged only in
the recent past, and its archamurti has been abiding since time
immemorial. Scriptural evidence pushed it back to the legendary
times. Skanda Purana envisages the divinity of this region drenched
by river Krishna. According to it, on the grandiose annual festival
celebrated during the auspicious Karkataka Sankramana, the highest
gods - Brahma and Maheswar descend in the form of water to worship
this archamurti. Does this not speak volumes of the greatness of
this holy thirtha kshetra? Moreover, Karpara Maharshi's obtaining
daiva sakshatkara
here and making the Lord dwell here permanently heighten the
spiritual glory of this place. This is mythology got entrenched in
the sacred lore.
The recent historic evidence comes from the personal life of Adil
Shah, who ruled this region with Bijapur as capital. Though a Muslim
by religion, he was tolerant to other religious. An ideal king at
it. His enlightened religious outlook amply rewarded him by the
Hindu God.
