Vikarabad,
an up-coming town in the district of Ranga Reddy of Andhra Pradesh
is the scene of action where the salagram of Anantha Padmanabhaswamy
lying in a pond demonstrated mysterious powers, responsible for the
erection of a holy temple, luring huge crowds round the year. The
main actor is Anantha Padmanabhaswamy in the salagram form, not
accessible for long due to taking its place under water in a pond,
fed by Ganges water flowing underground at the earnest prayers of
Markandeya mahrashi of infinite spiritual powers. The other
characters are many, but the Nawab of Nizam plays a leading role and
turned out the builder of a temple throbbing with devotional
activities and lifted the innumerable duhkarthis. Although several
others came into picture like Markandeya maharshi who settled down
first directed by Lord Brahma When prayed for a place suitable for
tapas, followed by many philanthropists one after another who
published to the world sacredness of this kshetra. For full grasp of
its sanctity, a short past history is quite expedient at this stage.
