Delhi - Lakshmi Narayana Mandir
Delhi,
the proud capital of the world's largest democracy has scores and scores of
largely visited and much-hallowed temples of both ancient and modern declaring
its exemplary religious tolerance and spiritual harmony. Every religion and each
cult has its own places of worship and are carrying their devotional activities
round the year uninterruptedly, declaring the land's Sanathana Dharma that
neither knows religious bigotry, nor allows its domination on anyone's life. All
religions are accorded equal treatment by the Government, mirroring its
ennobling, exemplary secular character, bending the heads of humanity sans
division or difference.
Among
the recently built Hindu shrines, the Lakshmi Narayan Mandir, the crest-jewel of
Hinduism deserves first mention. Built about a half century back by Saith Raja
Baldeodas Birla, it has been luring a steady stream of adorers everyday and
round the year. It is a stately built spacious temple with many mandirs and
minishrines. The milk white marble walls are adorned with excellent carvings of
adorable gods and goddesses. Its imposing high towers with fluttering flags are
conspicuous landmarks visible for miles afar. In the elegantly built mandir,
there are installed on a high vedika the masterly sculptured marble icons of
Mahavishnu and Lakshmi in standing posture that raise hands in veneration, the
very moment they gleam into the sight of viewers. The supreme artistry of the
sculptors deserve appreciation. This m flanked by two more similar mandirs
one enshrining Lord Siva's image in dhyana pose and the other Goddess Durga's
image, sitting astride her mount. They are majestic and soul-lifting. Behind
this, there is another imposing Krishna Mandir meriting indispensable
visitation. Just behind this temple complex, there is a beautiful big garden
called Indraprastha Dharmavatika embodying several interesting and artistically
made mandirs affording feast to the eyes. Visitors can spend hours and hours
enjoying the most worth-seeing sights in and around the campus. Modernity
coupled with divinity exuding from every frame of this holy shrine involuntarily
bends the visitors' heads in obeisance to the adorable gods, and sure their
homage goes to the builder too for presenting to the theist world this imposing
inexhaustible spiritual treasure to be kept in their minds locked up to be
cherished for ever. No thiest visiting Delhi, ever goes back without visiting
this modern Vishnu dham of ineffable charm.
It
is in the heart of Delhi, the capital of Indian union, accessible by city bus or
four wheelers from any point.
