Nanjangud
- Sri Parasurama Devalaya
Nanjangud carved for itself a unique niche in the temple that India is, by its famous Sri Kanteswaralaya, and another
reputed old shrine built for Parasurama, the sixth incarnation of Sri Mahavishnu. Being ancient, it is built according to the
tenets of Aalaya silpasastra and so has all the parts, and it is an independent temple enshrining the superbly sculptured
image of Sri Parasurama. The temple contains many minishrines housing the adorably deities. Regular agamic puja is
offered daily and the periodical festivals are conducted with due fanfare. Though its eminence is eclipsed by the
extra-ordinary popularity and unprecedented patronage extended to the Nanjunaeswara aalayam a visit to this-is a MUST
and the pilgrimage is complete only, with the darsan of this Lord Parasuram says the temple priest with beaming face and
voluble tongue. His pardonable pride is justified, for the darsan of the iron is found to be quite elevating and the spiritual
solace it gives unforgettable. As the temples for Parasuram are few and far- between in our holy Bharata varsha, it is a
miss-not kshema, of utmost spiritual significance.
It is in the pilgrim town of Nanjangud and 30 km off Mysore city, accessible by bus and it is a railhead too.
