Bhonagiri
- Sitaramanjaneya Aalayam
This Bhonagiri is the corrupt form of a once
flourishing town with big fort called
Tribhuvanagiri, built by Tribhuvana Malla of
great historical eminence. With the passage of
time, Tribhuvanagiri was changed into
Bhuvanagiri, and most likely due to alien impact,
it is now called by the name of Bhonagiri.
During the heyday of Tribhuvana Malla, he built
two beautiful temples - one for Someswara and
another for Sitaramanjaneyaswamy. The
Someswaralayam lying behind the tank bund is
a fine temple enshrining an ancient holy linga
worshipped with great veneration. The second
temple is dedicated to Sri Rama and the
Mulavirat installed with Sita, Lakshmana and
Anjaneyaswamy is exceedingly grand and lifts
the souls at first sight itself. The Anjaneya
image is called Swayambhu and he is the
guardian of the fort. This temple of modest
dimensions goes by the name of
Durgarakshaka Anjaneya Aalayam. Agamic
worship is offered daily. During the annual
festival - Sri Ramanavami, thousands of people
congregate and offer special prayer services
with great devotional zeal.
It lies 40 km off Hyderabad of Andhra Pradesh
and is accessible by bus and train. It is itself a
rail head and trains halt at this station.
