This holy kshetra deemed as ,Kerala
Rameswaram is situated on a high mound
amidst beautiful eye-filling and soul-lifting
scenery, And is at close proximity to the Vemba
nadu back waters. The enchanting ever
colourful Nature's bounty is an added attraction
to This holy Sri Rama kshetra. 11ie place and
the nearby pond are likened to Rameswaram
and hence the offering of Pitru tarpana and
Pinda pradana by the orthodox. Hindus who
throng this place on special occasions
considered this very auspicious for these
purposes. Needless to add the divinity of the
place and timing of sraddha are pleasing to the
progenitors, and they are feeling highly elated,
and so they bless their progeny to their hearts'
content.
It is a typical Kerala type of temple with Sri Koil -
garbhagriha in front of which lies the square
mandap, ground which lies the
Pradakshinapatha. It is beautifully adorned with
mural paintings, as found in all Kerala koils. Ihe
archamurti - Sri Rama is in standing pooture,
and made of Pathala Anjanam - a variety of
stone. The Lord is immensely famous for curing
the cases of rat-bite. The belief is current that
by offering prayers to the Lord after bathing in
the pond adjoining the temple, the victim is
cured of the- infection of rat poison. Victims of
rat bite throng this temple; and so huge crowds
are seen. Agamic worship is offered and
periodical festivals are celebrated with great
eclat.
This lies 5 km off the famous Vaikom temple
having transport facilities from major towns, like
Kottayam, one of the premier towns of Kerala.
