Swarnapuri,
the erstwhile name of present ponnur, situated at about 25 K.M. from Guntur, the
district head quarters of the same name proudly declares of possessing several
supreme shrines of International importance. The Bhavanarayanaswamv Temple has
had such a glorious record that it is on par with the Sarpavaram
Bhavanarayanaswamy Kshetraofimrnensce pouranic significance. Along with it there
are many Aalayaas, dedicated to' several deities like Matha
Kanyakaparameswan,Shiridi Saibaba, Vinayaka etc.. Of the many others, deserving indispensable
mention is Sri lnjaneyaswami Temple, enshrine in its vast campus four unique
shrines,such as Sahasralingeswaraswamy Aalayaam, Bhiravaswamy Aalyaam,
Garutmanta Aalyaam and Dasavatara Aalavaam. They are of recent construction,
came into existances from 1938, onwards by the indefatigable striving of one
great Devote by name Sri Janardhana Swami, belonging to Vvsya Community who
lived in a village near Chebrolu Town of Guntur District Everything here is
awesome and joins the palms of the visitors,
the moment the enter rirtu the vast campus. The 24 X 12" foot - high -
granite icon of Anjaneyaswamy is a sculptural master - piece. By its enormity
and magesty it arrests the attention and ignites spiritual instincts at first
sight itself. It faces east and adjoins to its South lies the Sahasralingeswara
Swamy Aalyaam. Around the garbha griha there are installed one thousand and ten
lingas, receiving
daily worship along with the archamurti. Then comes the Bhairavaswamy Aalyaam.
The moola vigraha although diminutive comparatively is superbly, carved. Adjoining
to its right stand two Sannidhis - one for Garuda, and the another for
Dasavatharas. The Garuda icon in standing posture is 30 feet in height and mesmerizes
the viewers with superb craftsmanship. The Dasavatara Aalyaa, the lone temple of
its kind in Bharatha Khand in well kept condition is housing ten separate
independent mandirs for each of the ten incarnations of Srimahavishnu.
In addition, there are separate niches for Sri Pandurangaswamy and
Sri Satyanarayanaswmay, besides many other Vaishanavate gods. a Single sight lifts and its very memory purges of sins of every
kind. The ten temples one for each incarnation in one place is a superb
conception and construction and carrying regular and annual festivals on grand
scale speaks volumes of the founder's and donors' unique spiritual evolution
meriting instant prospetion.
