Even so, every one of us lives in perpetual
danger of having to go at any moment from the world in which we are born and to live in
another world into which we shall be ushered after death. In this journey from this world
to another we cannot carry with us, much as we may desire to do so, all the wealth which
we have gathered for ourselves. We can carry nothing. Not a bit of the wealth will go with
us. We must leave it all behind. But it is open to us to convert all this material wealth into what will be
current in the kingdom to which we go. We can change it all into spiritual wealth. We can
convert the 'currency' of this world into the 'notes' and 'coins' which will be legal
tender in the world of spirit. Those 'notes' and 'coins' will bear on them the impress of
dharma and they can be cashed in the Bank of Dharma, which pervades all the worlds of the
universe.
Not the material goods that we have
amassed, but the good and evil thoughts that have swayed our minds, the good and evil that
we have thought, spoken and done, these come to us after death as merit and demerit, as
punya and paapa. |
