When the old
emperor died, Marcus became the emperor of Rome.
On the throne, Marcus felt like a fish out of water. He was, however, not afraid of
fighting wars. Only, he wanted to love everybody if he could. But that was not to be;
because neighbouring countries soon became jealous of him and invaded his country.The first duty of a king is to protect his country and people
against invaders. So Marcus collected a huge army and fought the enemies.
These wars were long drawn out; but he fought them one
after another and won.
Marcus spent the day in the battlefield and the night in
his tent in study and reflection on the problems of life. He noted down his thoughts.
We call one who thinks seriously about the problems of life
a philosopher. Marcus was one such. |
