MARCUS AURELIUS

ROME is the capital city of a country called Italy. It is far away from India. The people of that country were called Romans in olden days.

A soldier called Julius Ceasar founded an empire with Rome as its capital. This empire was a very large one.

Marcus Aurelius was one of the famous Roman emperors that came after Caesar.

Marcus lived in the second century A.D. He was the nephew of Emperor Pius Antonius.

Even as a boy, Marcus was pensive. He thought on human life and its ways; why some people are good and others bad.

Emperor Pius adopted Marcus as his son and gave him training in the art of ruling a country.

On the one hand, he learnt the art of war and on the other; his mind dwelt on peace and love of neighbours.
