SAMSKARAS |
|
After ten days
from the birth of the child, the father should perform what is called Jata-karma for the
child.
The father places the child on his lap and saying a mantra, smells the forehead of the
child.
He says the name of its nakshatra in the childs right ear.
Then the father smears a drop of honey on a golden ring and rubs the childs tongue
with it saying a mantra.
This mantra prays for a long and healthy life and also for intelligence for the child.
The next important Samskara is Namakarna or naming the child. The name should be that of a
deity like Rama, Krishna and so on or of one of the childs ancestors. |
