SAMSKARAS |

| In some parts
of the country the first letter of the name corresponds to the nakshatra in which the
child is born. The name of girl children should, in addition, be sweet and nice to say. The elders call the child by the selected name thrice and bless him. Our ancients thought that by calling their children by these names, they would be saying God’s name many times a day. That is like saying prayer. The above two Samskaras are common both to boys and girls. Upanayana is the next important Samskara. It is performed on An auspicious day for boys before they are seven or eight years old. The word Upanayana means introducing the Vedas to the boy. |
