HYMN TO THE EARTH |
|
One other name
by which this Veda is called is Brahma-Veda.
It is called so because the hymns were used by Brahma, the sacrificial priest in a yaga.
The prayers and the knowledge contained in them are also called Brahman.
This Veda consists of twenty books of nearly six thousand verses constituting some seven
hundred and sixty hymns.
These hymns are prayers for charms; for protection against evil; for benedictions; for
prosperity; for success in love and trade and for other domestic purposes too.Among them are some hymns of exquisite beauty and literary merit. |
