THE TEMPLES IN 24 PARGANAS |
|
According to
legend Murshid Kuli Khan had imprisoned Madan Mohan Roy Choudhury, the Zamindar of
Baruipur because of arrears of revenue. Gazi Saheb, a Pir held in great esteem by Murshid
Kuli Khan is supposed to have given an order to Murshid Kuli Khan in a dream that not only
Madan Mohan should be released but also he should be presented with a new Zamindari.
Murshid Kuli khan released Madan Mohan and gave him this village along with other
villages. The legend shows a high incidence of
communal unity and this unity is still preserved. Both Hindus and Muslims hold Pirs in
great esteem at this and a number of other villages in this area. When Gazi Saheb a pir
passed away the Roy Choudhury Zamindars constructed a dargah at Ghutiarisharif village in
honor of Gazi Saheb. At the time of ambubachi a largely attended mela is held at
Ghutiarisharif. |
