Majilpur also
became the center of Sakti worship and the Kalibari of Majilpur was at one time as famous
as the Kalighattemple. The Kalipitha of Majilpur became a center for the sadhana of a
number of Tantrics.
It is interesting to note that a number of villages like Chakratirtha, Maida, Rajpur,
Boral, Kalighat, Chitpur all on the bank of the Adi-Ganga river became great places for
Sakti worship. Chakratirtha is now a decadent village but at one time was the seat of
trade, commerce and prosperity. Kabikankan Mukunda Ram in his Chandi- Kavya has made a
mention of Chakratirtha village as a famous river point. The
pilgrims would disembark here, visit the temple of Tripura Sundari and Bhairab Ambulinga
Siva, have a bath at the sacred tanks and continue their river journey. Many
black-stone images of goddesses have been found at this village. Chakratirtha still has
been found at this village. Chakratirtha still has a mela in the month of Chaitra when
thousands of pilgrims have their bath at Nanda's Pukhur(tank) held to be sacred. After the
mela the village again shrinks into oblivion. |
