BHATTAMATI TEMPLE |
|
The carvings on
the panels and on the lintels are particularly charming. The temple faces the south.
On either side
of the main entrance door there are two long vertical panels from below up to the top.The
different niches flanking the elaborate panel on the right have depic- tions of different
scenes of Ramayana--the boyhood of Rama, Rams's departure for the destruction of Taraka,
the breaking of the bow of Hara, the banishment in the jungles, Rama following the
mayamriga etc. The stories have been depictions of
the story of Lord Krishna--the different phases of his life from the childhood to his
sports with Radha and the gopinis (cow herd maidens), Gosthalila (love episodes of Lord
Krishna) etc. The engravings are dignified and bring out the real spirit of the
different stories and show that the artists had inspiration behind them. |
