JAGARNATHPUR |

Ranchi district
has had a tremendous industrialization and urbanization in the course of the last one
decade. The minerals of Chotanagpur, and particularly iron ore, manganese, bauxite, coal
etc., have not been fully utilized so long. The forest wealth of Ranchi is also immense.
The industrialization of the district with Ranchi as the centre will make Ranchi
very soon the centre of a zone that may well come to be regarded as the Ruhr of India. Already
the Central Offices of the Hindustan Steel that run a number of steel factories have been
shifted to Ranchi. Another all-India concern, the National Coal Development Company, has
its headquarters in Ranchi. The district and Ranchi, the district headquarters, are also
interesting for the anthropologists, particularly in tracing the changes of the Adivasis
through different ages.
For the tourists and the pilgrims Ranchi has a great interest because of the
climate, beautiful natural scenery, beauty spots, industrial concerns and temples. Besides
railway connections, throughout the district there are excellent roads well-served by good
passenger buses. |
