The
temple of god Papamochana was also built with a statue equal in height to that of three
men; and a flight of steps leading to the river, a large number of houses for Brahmins to
live in, two big wapis with a shrine of Chandika were also constructed. This was how the great Fifth Temple came into existence. Its remains
withstood the shocks of time and survived the attacks of destroyers. Aged, infirm,
desecrated, it stood when Sardar Patel rescued it from neglect and pledged himself to its
reconstruction. As a temple, it had done its work to remind later ages of what India's
faith had been; it was left only as a symbol of her to-be forgotten misfortunes. With the
dawn of a new era, the new temple has risen like the Phoenix, from its own ashes. |
