After
the terrible fight with the Demon, Kali reached this holy place, worshipped Lord Siva and
at last got back her original
form of Parvati and attained re-union. The presiding deity, Siva, in temple is known as
Kaleesar.
There lived a sect of people, known as Valakillayar, who distinguished themselves by their
power to curse, gained through
austere penance hundreds of years. Lakshmi, the consort of Maha Vishnu, had the luck of
being cursed by them. As the
curse was very effective, she to come to Kaliyar Koil for getting redemption of the curse.
