KALIYAR KOIL

It is said in the Sthalapurana that when the great Saivite saint Sundaramurti Nayanar was staying at Tiru Chuzhiyal with his friend King Chera Perumanayanar, Lord Siva appeared before the saint one day in his vision in the form of a bull and told him: "I am in Kanapper". The sage immediately
reached this place and composed many hymns and songs in praise of the Lord.

The gopuram of the temple is not only gigantic in stature but also immensely imposing, being visible from a great distance. As the gopuram has become very old, devoted people have joined together to renovate it which is being done now.
