MAYAVARAM |
|
There are many
temples here dedicated to Gods of lesser importance. It is said that many angels including
Indra, great saints and other celestial beings and even animals such as parrots, cats,
wolves, elephants, horses, etc. have worshipped the Lord and attained salvation.
Long long ago there was a Brahmin by name Nathasarma. He and his wife Anavitai desired to
merge themselves in Lord Siva. With this view, they undertook a pilgrimage. After visiting
many holy shrines of Siva, they came to Mayavaram. As advised by Lord Mayuranatha himself
in a vision, the Brahmin installed a Siva Linga on the left side to the Lord and his wife
installed another to the right side of the Devi. Both of them conducted penance for
many years and at last their cherished desire was fulfilled. |
