| Since then it has
become customary for all who visit this temple to offer worship first at the shrines of
Nathasarma (Siva Linga worshipped by Nathasarma) and Ana Vitai Eswarar (Siva Linga worshipped by the Brahmin's wife Anavitai) beforeoffering prayer to the main. Temple, as the belief is that then only the devotees can please Lord Mayuranatha and get there desires fulfilled. In memory of Anavitai, the Linga installed by her is being dressed and decorated even today with a sari just as Goddesses are adomed. When God is brought to the level of a personal God, He is worshipped according to the instinct of the devotee. Nathasarma's wife Anavitai worshipped Lord Siva in her mind's eye decorating him with saris, to which she was accustomed. |
