MAYAVARAM |
|
At Mayavaram there
are many holy Teerthams and the river Kaveri flows nearby. Vrishabha Teertham is a
particular bathing ghat in the river Kaveri. Once Lord Siva was very much annoyed with the
behavior of Nandi, his chief attendant, who had become very proud and was thinking too
much of himself. Out of anger Lord Siva pushed him
down to Patala Loka at Mayavaram on the bank of the river Kaveri. So this particular place
is known as Vrishabha Teertham (Vrishabham means Nandi or Bull). It is also known as Tula
Gnat where the devotees take their holy bath and performs obsequies to their deceased
ancestors during the month of Tula (Aippasi: October -November). |
