MYLAPORE

Once, there lived a great devotee of Siva, Sivanesa Chettiar by name, in Mylapore. His daughter Angampoompavai was bitten by a cobra and died. The Chettiar gathered her bones after cremation of her body and preserved them in a pot.

Tirujnana Sambankar came to Mylapore in the course of his pilgrimage to sacred places, sprinkled the Sivanesa Chettiar, out of gratitude, offered his daughter to the saint in marriage. But he declined for the reason that as he restored her to life, she was a daughter to him, whom he should not marry. This incident is celebrated during the 8th day of the Brahmotsavam of the temple.
